Records we may need

Your exact deductions depend on the facts. Common records include revenue summaries, invoices, bank and credit-card statements, business receipts, vehicle records, workspace-in-home information, software and phone costs, insurance and other business expenses.

Keep evidence. An expense is not automatically deductible just because it was paid from a business account. Keep receipts and records that support the business purpose.

GST/HST and self-employment

Depending on your taxable supplies and registration status, GST/HST may need to be collected, reported and remitted separately from income tax. If you are registered, we can help reconcile your sales tax records and prepare reporting information.

Deadlines

For many self-employed individuals, the 2025 personal return filing deadline was June 15, 2026, while balances owing were generally due April 30, 2026. GST/HST deadlines depend on your reporting period.
